The sound of the train going by......

I was at my relative's house today which is next to a church and rail tracks. Our conversation was interuppted by the sound of the train going by, which was so tragically romantic, forcing one to be introspective that I completely lost track of what we were talking about.

Twice the train roared by while I was there, and twice I stole the moments to be with myself....

hmmm .. i've always found romantic moments in simple things .. but never the sound of a train .. let me think .. hmmmm .. well nooo .. not by a passing train ..

what kinda romantic thoughts did you think about? .. there can be many and each can be triggered by something .. some specific thing ..

well .. ofcourse a loved one will come to mind if he/she took a train or both were on a train .. specific memories of a trip .. but there has to be a relation with the train .. what was yours?

For example .. u see a flower and romance can come to mind no matter what .. i.e. you might not have given a flower to your loved one and still .. but with train there has to be a connection.

romance to me is not just constrained to a loving relationship/feelings for another person, rather I follow the extended meaning of this word which is

"A strong, sometimes short-lived attachment, fascination, or enthusiasm for something."

"a mysterious or fascinating quality or appeal, as of something adventurous, heroic, or strangely beautiful."

According to this definition don't u think the sound of a old-fashioned pakistani train complete with the blaring horn and the chugging as it goes by would be "strangely beautiful". We're so used to the sounds of the fast cars, screeching tyres and horns hooting from every direction, that when I hear something so loud yet so pure in essence, it captivates me.

The sound didn't trigger any flashback of a moment spent with a loved one nor that of one spent travelling on the train (coz the time i did I was fast asleep for 17 hours straight!) rather what I meant by introspective was it somehow ironically though, it forced me to evaluate myself...and for that moment I was far far away from everyone else yet so very close to myself...

Stuanch or Staunch* ?

Let me check the dictionary :)

@Even the odour of steaming hot coffee that often drives many ppl mad has a certain type of romanticism in it!

i used to be in school near the tracks and i remember those moments when we knew the train would shake everyone into an expectant silence.
and i would be reminded of long ago indian movies where the train would come into the station and everyones lives would change because of the one stranger who was on it. yep trains are def romantic for all the possibilities they hold.
